The year was 1993 and stoke was high. Whitney Houston was crushing "I Will Always Love You" for the first time, Michael Jordan & the Bulls were unbeatable, and Mulder was chasing aliens with Scully. Times were good but they were about to be better., way better. The Runner Up Sports was about to open its doors for the first time and Whitefish hasn't been the same since. This is the story of the best used gear shop the world has ever known.
30 Years of Gear, Dogs, and Adventure
Things at The Runner Up Sports are split in two: things that are exactly the same as the day we opened and things we change every year to give you the best service possible.
For example, our phone number and address have never changed. You can find us the way in the same place you did last time. We still offer the best deal on gear, the best consignment rates, and the chillest shop dog you'll ever meet. But most importantly, we still treat our customers the same. The Runner Up records go back 30 years with over 10,000 hand-written customer accounts tracked and waiting for the next time you sell something!
But other things have changed because there is always another new, trendy way to sell your used gear. First, it was the classifieds, but they faded away. eBay popped up next until people got tired of bidding and shipping gear. Craigslist filled the gap next so people could sell online locally. Facebook Marketplace is the latest trend and, here at the Runner Up, we adapt every time to make sure we stay the best option to sell you gear.
